Having
a portrait painted is a way of expressing love and respect. It is a
rare and enjoyable collaboration between the artist and the sitter.
Working closely with the subject, a successful portrait is no less than
a true and honest portrayal of the person's character, essence, and
likeness. The pleasure of contemplating the person/people in the portrait
must be an end in itself.
John
Viljoen's working methods are straightforward and easily suited to your
schedule. When your portrait is done, it will be more than just a likeness
- it will be a work of art.
Viljoen
was born in 1967 in Toronto, Canada. He was educated at the Parsons
School of Design, NYC 1992, and graduated Summa Cum Laude B.F.A. He
also attended the Aviano Academy of Fine Arts, NYC 1991-1994 and the
fcole Albert Defois, France 1994-1996. Viljoen is represented in The
New York Genealogical and Biographical Society, NYC, The Toronto Western
Hospital, Toronto, and Upper Canada College, Toronto.
Viljoen
is a classic oil painter who creates contemporary works with a timeless
quality. He paints portraits, figures, florals, still lifes, landscapes
and interiors with enthusiasm, confidence, and flair. His attention
to detail is studied without becoming overworked and trite. His flowing,
painterly technique depicts haunting light that drifts through skies
and windows to create airy atmospheres.
