Alexandre Jacques Chantron
French, 1842-1918

Alexandre Jacques Chantron was a pupil of Pirot, Bouguereau and Tony Robert-Fleury. He began by painting genre and history scenes, portraits and still-lifes (flowers), later painting nudes in the style of Bouguereau. He first exhibited at the Salon de Paris of 1877 with a history painting, "Christ at the Column", receiving a merit in 1893, a third-class medal in 1899, and a second-class medal in 1902.
