Some years ago, I was introduced to the remarkable sculpture of Jane Manus and in 2007 I commissioned Jane to create a work for the Lincoln Center/List Art Program titled “ Box Trot”.Exemplifying her brilliant combination of a carefully articulated abstract box form, Box Trot offers a sense humor with a nod to the performing arts. I see in Jane’s sleek metal sculpture a confidence and understanding of movement as the planes slice through their surroundings as if in a spontaneous performance. They thrust upward and interact with one another communicating in a visual language celebrating pure uncluttered form.The surfaces are beautifully painted thus further enhancing the feeling of pure geometry. Ms. Manus masterfully carries on the tradition of modern sculpture following in her own unique style the work of Mark di Suvero, Joel Shapiro and Tony Smith.Her credits are many and her works are in the collections of noted public art museums and art galleries.
