This is the same cedar canoe that posed for me when I created my serigraph 'True North.' Here it is again tethered at a quiet inlet off Lake Temagami in Northern Ontario, where I was exploring and sketching. The tranquility of the wilderness setting with tree-filtered reflections of the sunlight in the water provided me with the ideal harmony I was looking for. Yet, somehow, it's the canoe that makes the picture.

There's something about a cedar canoe that strikes a cord in my psyche. Whether it's the shape, the obvious craftsmanship, or the long-held tradition of its history in our northern waters - it never fails to attract my attention. As a good friend of mine has a cheerful habit of saying, it's 'a thing of beauty.'
