Rue St-Simon et Deligne, Quebec
Oil on Canvas, 10 x 14 inches, 25.4 x 35.6 cm
Inventory #14971
(Canadian, 1928- )
signed 'John Little' (lower right). Titled (on the reverse)
Provenance: The Continental Galleries, Montreal. By descent to the present Private Collection, Toronto.

John Little (ARCA) studied at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MOMA) where he was taught by Arthur Lismer and Goodridge Roberts. He worked during his studies alongside his father at a Montreal architecture firm. There, John developed his taste for the urban landscape and soon the street corner, the vanishing sidewalk, and the pedestrian became trademarks of his work. Rue St-Simon et Deligne, Quebec is a fine example of that committment to all things urban. With a touch of winter grey, the painting is a realistic and also painterly rendition of a brother and sister walking along a Quebec City street.
