Ken Danby (graphics)
Canadian

In 1970, Danby produced his first series of multi-coloured prints using silkscreen techniques. Every stage of Danby’s printmaking was executed by hand and with the intent that his artwork would be more accessible to the public. Whether they are black and white or in a multitude of colours, Danby’s lithographs and serigraphs emphasize light and shade with delicate tonalities. They capture moments in time, distilled with the richness of human experience. They are contemplative, with a silent strength, the product of the artist’s sensitivity to his subjects and his authority of execution.

In 2008, Odon Wagner Gallery, as agent of the estate of original works by the late Ken Danby (1940-2007), exhibited the complete collection of graphic works by the artist. The collection spanned Danby’s creative output from the bucolic childhood scene to portraits, all executed with the deft and commanding hand of a modern Canadian master.
