Kate Giles
View Exhibition History |

Rooted in classical English and Dutch landscape painting, Kate's style is truly a contemporary impressionism.

"It is not enough to read a deep understanding of the English and Dutch landscape traditions and a keen awareness of contemporary practice in the paintings of Kate Giles. She forces a language onto the canvas that is indivisible from herself. Seeing landscape as paint, she inspects its surface as one would the surface of a finished canvas. Pigment will flow through culverts and paint will drain from the sky. Giles wrings every last drop of juice from the spareness of a particular part of Suffolk; she squeezes it onto her canvas, fusing rhythms and counterpoints with a particular emotional intellect. Ultimately, she finds harmonies that are unique to her."  Laurence Edwards, 2007
